I was in year four when the original Lion King movie came out. I remember it really well. My grandparents took us to the cinema to see it, but I couldn’t properly relax because earlier that day I had got into trouble for talking after the whistle was blown at playtime, and I knew I had to miss my playtime the next day. I was such a good kid at school that it traumatized me. Funny how you remember little things like that, isn’t it?
It didn’t stop me loving the film, however, and even now, 20-something years on, it’s probably my favourite Disney movie alongside The Little Mermaid. I absolutely adore the characters, particularly Pumbaa (I feel an affinity with him, to be honest!), and I’ve loved introducing my own three kids to it. I have been SO excited about the live-action movie coming out!
To coincide with the film, Just Play has released these gorgeous plush toys, featuring characters from the movie. We have been sent the small plush Pumbaa (RRP £9.99) and the large plush Nala (RRP £22.99).
Disney’s The Lion King Live-Action Small Plush Pumbaa with Sound – RRP £9.99
As I said above, Pumbaa is my favourite character of all, but this 8″ tall small plush toy is available in Simba, Nala, and Timon as well. It’s the perfect size for collecting and carrying about. If you press the paws, it activates sounds from the film, including one of my (and Ben’s) favourite lines – ‘slimy, but satisfying!‘. It does need three button cell batteries, but these are included.
Disney’s The Lion King Live Action Large Plush Nala with Sound – RRP £22.99
You can buy the Simba, Nala and Pumbaa version of these 14″ tall plush toys. Just like the smaller ones, they feature lines and sounds from the movies, which can be activated by pressing their paws. The detailing on them is beautiful, and they’re lovely and cuddly! It needs 2 x AAA batteries, which are included.
Both of these toys are available from Amazon and are suitable for children aged 3 and above.
