I LOVE donor kebabs, especially with a load of chilli sauce and mayo on them. However, with the average chip shop kebab containing around 1000 calories (eek!) it’s not something I eat very often. What the ‘meat’ actually contain can be a bit dubious as well – probably best not to even think about it.
I’d come across lots of different recipes for this ‘fakeaway’ donor kebab, all with different ingredients and methods. Because I am the world’s laziest cook, I of course went for the easiest option – the slow cooker one, and as usual ended up adapting it a little (I never seem to have the right ingredients in!). When we had it, on pitta breads with salad (and chilli sauce!), it tasted just like a donor kebab – without all the grease! It took a few goes to get the timing right, but 5 hours on low seems to be perfect.
I have no idea how many calories are in this, but if you used lean lamb mince I imagine it wouldn’t even be half of a chip shop one – and you know exactly what has gone into it!
I am sure your homemade ones are so much better for you too x
omg really, who would have ever knew , im giving this one a try this weekend as a surprise for hubby x
Yum! Is it wrong that at nearly 10 in the morning I am thinking this would be perfect right now! It sounds delicious 🙂
Nice and simple, will have to give it a go! And you’re right – it’s nice to have a doner kebab and actually know what meat has gone into it! x
This is amazing. I love kebab but I am also dubious as to what they are actually made with in chip shops! Have never thought of making my own.
Oh my goodness that sounds amazing!! I can’t remember the last time I had a kebab but I do like them, will be trying this out, thanks very much 🙂
I’ve got a recipe for a donor kebab in my fakeaway slimming world book but I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll be making it soon because I haven’t had kebab for months and I’m craving one now!
I would never of thought of that, looks really yummy. Kebabs are my hubby favourite so I think I might be making this very soon. Thanks for sharing xxx
Home made food is always healthier and cheaper than shop bought. Being veggie – we often make veggie kebabs in the summer which we BBQ and have in pittas with salad.
I’ve seen this done before and keep meaning to try it – it’s a great idea!
I don’t normally like lamb but i am really liking the way your kebab looks!
Ahh I wish I had the space for a slow cooker! My kitchen is tiny! xxx
I’ve been wanting to buy a slow cooker for a long while, and this might just be my reason 🙂
I like quick and easy and this sounds perfect for one of my car suppers that I need to make a couple of times a week

My mum got me a slow cooker for Christmas and I need more ideas of recipes to try out! I have pinned it and will link to you when I give it a go and write up the blog post.
