Thanks to the everyday grind, it’s inevitable that your flooring won’t stay clean for long, especially if you come from a busy family household with little ones charging about the place! Since you’ve spent a significant amount of money on your new flooring, you’ll want it to look its best for as long as possible. Thankfully, there are tips you can follow to keep your floors looking impressive for longer.
Plenty of sweeping
As boring as it is, regular sweeping will not only keep your floors clean but prevent scratches. If too much dirt, debris, and stones from shoes are left, then they can be trodden in and scratch. This is particularly an issue with real wood, as it is not scratch-proof like Luxury Vinyl Tiles, therefore if you feel scratches are more likely in your home, then LVT is probably more suitable.
Be careful with the kind of broom you use, however. Depending on what floor you have, it can cause scratches and be too harsh for its surface, so opt for a softer brush to be safe.
Mop and vacuum
Although sweeping is quick, vacuuming is the best way of getting the dust and debris that sweeping might miss. Be aware of the attachment though – some vacuums come with instructions with which attachment to use for which floor, the last thing you want to do it damage your floors! We’d recommend vacuuming at least once a week to keep it looking fresh and clean, mopping should be done at least once a week too. You can use warm soapy water, but if you want to go one step further then purchase a floor cleaner that specializes in your particular flooring type. We’d always recommend mopping dry as large amounts of water can cause damage especially to wood and laminate floors. If you’re lucky enough to have real wood, do not use a steam mop! These can cause the wood to warp and shrink over time.
Slippers rugs and all things soft
If you’re really wanting to go to town with maintaining the beauty of your flooring, then avoid wearing outdoor shoes. Not only are they harsher on the floors, but they also spread dirt and debris around from the outside. Rugs are another great protector for your floors. Place rugs in areas that experience higher foot traffic, this will help reduce the wear and tear on your floor. It is also worth getting furniture floor protectors.
All these steps are very easy to follow and worth bearing in mind when you purchase your new flooring. By using these tips, your flooring will not only remain beautifully clean but look brand new!
