My Favourite Spot in the House

I think every home has that one place.

The spot you find yourself naturally drawn to. The place you end up sitting without really planning to. The place that somehow becomes special, even though there is nothing particularly fancy about it.

For me, it’s the bench outside the front of the house.

Not the kitchen. Not the sofa. Not one of the rooms I’ve spent hours thinking about decorating.

The bench.

I received this bench to review about nine years ago (read the review here!)

It was just a bench. A nice bench, A simple place to sit outside.

But already, it has become my favourite place.

Maybe because it’s where I get to see everything happening around me.

I can sit there and watch the kids playing. I can sit with a coffee and look out at our little corner of the countryside, taking in the fact that this is actually where we live.

After everything it took to get here, I still have moments where I look around and think, “Is this really ours?”

This house was always about more than the bricks and walls.

It was about finding somewhere that felt peaceful. Somewhere the children could grow. Somewhere we could slow down a little.

And that little bench somehow represents all of that.

During the day, it’s a place for normal life. Children playing, the dogs pottering around, the sounds of the countryside around us.

But my favourite time is the evening.

When everything starts to quieten down, and the sun begins to set behind the tree.

The light changes, the sky fills with colour, and for a little while I just sit there and take it all in.

It’s such a simple thing, but those are the moments I dreamed about.

Not huge, dramatic moments.

Just sitting outside my own home, watching the sunset, listening to the world around me and feeling content.

I always imagined my favourite spot in our forever home would be somewhere inside. A cosy corner with cushions and blankets. Somewhere I could curl up.

But it turns out it’s a wooden bench outside the front door.

A place to watch the children.

A place to talk.

A place to breathe.

A place to remind myself that after all the uncertainty and waiting, we are finally here.

And honestly, I think that little bench might become one of the places in this house with the most memories attached to it.

Because sometimes the most special places aren’t the ones you plan.

They’re the ones that quietly become yours.
