What to do in Galle and the surrounding areas
Walk around the ramparts
Galle is a walled city, surrounded by impressive ramparts, built by Durch merchant in the 17th century. Walk along them and cast your eye over the ocean, the old prison and the lighthouse and clock tower.
Visit the shops
If retail therapy is your thing, Galle is perfect for you. There are plenty of tiny boutiques and little shops selling all manner of unusual and unique things for that perfect souvenier. Gems, jewellery, linen and sarongs are just a few of the things that the are is known for.
Try Your Hand At Surfing
If you’re looking for huge waves, you may be disappointed, but Unawatuna is perfect for anyone who might want to give surfing a whirl. There are surf schools to get you up and going, and board hire shops for you if you haven;t got one of your own.
Relax on the beach
Unawatuna is the ideal beach for kicking back and relaxing on. Walk along the shore, pay a visit to the many shops and restaurants along the front, sip on a beer and eat delicious fresh seafood. The beautiful white sand is great for kids to play on and if you want something a bit more adventurous, you can have a go at scuba diving.
