Over the past couple of months, I’ve lost quite a considerable amount of weight – around three stone. Whilst I’ve been losing weight, I’ve been gaining confidence. I’m not going to be perfectly slim and toned – I’ve had three kids and wasn’t slim before having them – but I am learning to love parts of my body that I hated. I have long, nice shaped legs. I have nice eyes. I have a pretty damn amazing pair of boobs. Ok, so my tummy is dreadful still and I hate the tops of my arms, but I’m sorting them out, slowly. Until then, I’ll find clothes that show the parts of me that I love, whilst flattering the bits I’m not so keen on.
When JD Williams got in touch and asked me if I wanted to review some summer outfits, I knew this was the chance to try something a bit different and begin to embrace the way I look. I had a good old mooch through the website, looking at the women’s tops, sandals and dresses before making my final choice.
My main look is usually a dress or a long tunic style top with leggings. It’s easy to wear and I know I can wear them with my Skechers, flip flops or even dress them up a bit with heels. I ended up choosing this navy floral Joe Browns tunic top. It is shorter on me than I thought it would be (I constantly forget that I’m 5ft 10!) but it’s still a good length, covering my bum so I can wear it with leggings. The 3/4 length sleeves cover my bingo wings and the flare at the bottom means it hides my mum-tum. I’ve been wearing it as part of my everyday wardrobe but it would be o easy to dress up for a summer evening at the pub.
The second item I chose was way out of my comfort zone. I do wear bright colours sometimes and I do wear maxi dresses, but I was a bit nervous about wearing something so bright on a maxi dress. I am so glad that I took a chance and ordered it because I love it. Again, it is shorter in length on me than it would be for most people, but I have come to accept that with maxi dresses. The high drawstring waist is flattering on my tummy and the split sleeves mean I show some am, but the worst bits are covered. I wore it out to do the school run and had a lot of compliments on the dress, so it’s become a firm favourite for the summer months.
To finish off, I went for rose gold and white sandals. Rose gold is so on trend now, and these sandals are so shiny and pretty. They do come quite small – I’m a size 7 usually, and whilst they fit me, it’s only just about. I think if I was ordering them again I would go a size up. However, they are comfy and a great way of adding some pretty metallic colour to plain outfits over the summer.
I’ve shopped at JD Williams before, and still regularly wear a dress I had from there over a year ago, so I know that the clothes are good quality and will wash and wear really well. As I lose more weight, I’ll definitely be checking in and having another look!
