Perfect Porridge: Chocolate, Banana and Coconut Smoothie

We were challenged by Flahavans to create three exciting breakfast recipes using their Irish porridge oats to combat the idea that porridge is a ‘boring’ breakfast option.We love porridge so were really excited about creating our perfect porridge, using this amazing set.


Our first recipe is a smoothie. Smoothies are great for breakfast, especially if short on time. They take minutes to make and can be consumed on the go. We combined some of our favourite flavours to make a Chocolate, Banana and Coconut Oat Smoothie.

Chocolate, Banana and Coconut Smoothie

To make it we used Flahavan’s Porridge Oats, shredded coconut, cocoa nibs, full fat milk and half a banana (they always seem to work better when they’ve gone a bit mushy!). Don’t ask me how much of each ingredient we used – it’s just a bit trial and error!

11169834_10155453614355500_599579152898732245_n (1)I popped the ingredients into the blender, gave it a quick whizz and then poured it out. I like smoothies to have some texture so I left it quite thick and ‘bitty’, but you could blend for longer to make it really smooth.

It was really yummy and perfect for a quick breakfast or energy boost.
