How to Cook the Perfect English Breakfast

The perfect English breakfast is one of the best ways to start the day. The smell of bacon and sausages along with a perfectly cooked egg and two slices of bread provide you with the energy you need to get through even the toughest day.

Even better, cooking the perfect English breakfast is nowhere near as difficult as you think. Here are the steps to complete if you want to prepare a great English breakfast for yourself.

Things You Need

There are a few things you would need in order to cook the perfect English breakfast. Aside from two thick slices of bread, you also need:

  • 2 sausages
  • 2 rashers of bacon
  • Some flat mushrooms
  • 1 ripe tomato
  • An egg

You can also add a slice of black pudding to complete the set. Don’t forget to prepare some oil for cooking; light olive oil and some butter will do the job perfectly.

You also need a good frying pan for preparing the breakfast. A pan with a side grill plate works, although it is much better to pick up an iron skillet frying pan. A skillet or frying pan from Vonshef is made of cast iron and is already seasoned, so it will retain heat better and will help you get that perfect balance between crispy exterior and nicely-cooked interior when cooking.

Now that you have everything you need, it is time to start making the breakfast.

Steps to Complete

Always start with the sausages. Heat the skillet frying pan with a dab of olive oil and put the sausages in. Let them cook slowly for around 15 minutes; make sure you use low heat and only increase the heat to medium after around 10 minutes.

Next, cook the bacon. You can get a much better flavor by removing the fatty edge of the bacon and cooking it separately. You can also choose your own preferred crispiness, although cooking the bacon for 2 to 3 minutes is usually enough.

Now, it is time to cook the vegetables. Clean the mushrooms properly and place them with the stalk-side up. Don’t forget to add some more olive oil if the pan looks dry. You can also add the tomatoes – cut across and seasoned with salt and pepper – to the pan. Both will cook after around 2 to 3 minutes.

The last part is cooking the bread and the egg. You simply place two slices of bread onto the medium-heat and then break the egg straight into the pan after both sides of the bread are golden and crispy. You can add a little butter for some added flavor.

The Perfect Breakfast

It takes no more than 30 minutes to prepare the perfect English breakfast. The process is much easier to manage with a cast iron skillet since the heat remains constant throughout the cooking process.

Once everything is cooked, you can mix everything directly on the skillet pan or put them on a separate plate, depending on how practical you want things to be. You can now enjoy your perfect English breakfast and be ready for the rest of the day.
