Have you ever thought about how to decorate that spare room? If you’re lucky enough to have a spare room in your home, you should make the most of it, rather than use it as a space for storage and let dust pile up! Now, I love my children more than anything, but there are times when I need to have my own space, and I could do with making the most of a space that is for me. But the children’s’ needs will always take place above my own, but it made me think about the future and what can I really do when the day comes that my boys leave and I’ve got all this space left. It’s a long way in the future, but I can dream can’t I? So, here are some thoughts if you’re soon to have a spare room.
A Walk-in Wardrobe
Instead of a load of coats piled up in the hallway, it would be nice to have a place where my wardrobe of clothes can really take up its own space. I’ll be able to indulge a bit more in buying some clothes when the boys end up going to university. But as a space saver, you can get some shelving and nicely decorated storage units and make your spare room a place to really show off your clothes. If your current wardrobe is bursting at the seams, do you tend to find that you just pick the clothes that are nearest to save time? At least with this setup, you can really see how much choice you’ve got.
A Date Room
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a space that is just for you and your partner? You can set up a table and chairs with some dim lights to get the romantic setting just right. Plenty of websites that sell lights, like danlamp.com, have a wide selection and you can pick a style that suits the room and the house too. As we tend to spend more time focused on our children during their formative years and, unfortunately, our partners take second place so often, it’s important for us to make time for each other. If you can make a space that is just for you two, you’ll be more inclined to use it.
A Creative Space
For those people who like to get their creative juices flowing but don’t get the chance because there’s always a nappy that needs changing or someone needs feeding, the opportunity to make your own little space for doing something challenging and creative is one to relish! Whether you’re a writer and you want to set up a little space for writing blogs (oh, how I wish I could have one) or you like to paint, make a place that is inspiring and how you want it to be. Set up a stereo system or just have the room wall to wall with books and art. It’s all about making the place conducive to work in.
