Helping Your Toddler Gets the Nutrients They Need with SMA® PRO Toddler Milk’? |AD

Alex, our middle son, is now three years old. He, unlike our eldest and youngest, was breastfed until two months short of his 2nd birthday. We then moved over to cow’s milk (the Department of Health says that cow’s milk should not be given as a main drink before 12 months old). Boy, did he drink a lot of it! All three of the boys have been absolute milk monsters, and would drink it all day if we let them.

When he first started on solids, he wasn’t a particularly fussy eater, but like most children, he hit the terrible two’s and decided he would quite happily live on a diet of porridge, chicken nuggets and mashed potato (why is it always the beige foods?!) if we let him.

I worried about him missing out on vital nutrients by eating such a limited diet, and had no idea what to do, other than try and get him to eat more fruit and vegetables. Like with all my pregnancies, I had tried so hard to stay healthy – eating the right foods and taking folic acid and vitamins, knowing that the first 1000 days of my child’s life (the period from conception to child’s 2nd birthday) were so important when it came to nutrition, and I wanted to carry on making sure he was having the healthiest diet possible.

A fortified milk, such as SMA® PRO Toddler Milk is one way to help make sure your toddler is getting the important nutrients and vitamins that they need. Aimed at children aged 1 – 3 years, this fortified milk contains Vitamin D, Iron, calcium, vitamins A and C and Iodine. Two servings provide toddlers with 100% of their daily vitamin D recommended intake that they need in order to absorb calcium. Recent research carried out on the government survey into the diets of babies and young children (DNSIYC) found that children who drank fortified milk, such as SMA® PRO Toddler Milk, had a much higher daily intake of iron, zinc, vitamin A and vitamin D. They are all important nutrients for helping toddlers develop and grow into healthy children.

Alex is now almost four, and thankfully is growing out that horrendous fussy stage. It looks like Benjamin is starting to hit the fussy age (although he did decide to randomly eat a live spider he found in the living room!!) and we are looking into adding fortified milk, such as SMA® PRO Toddler Milk with vitamin D and calcium to help support normal growth and development of bones, into his diet to help make sure he is getting everything that he needs to help build a nutritional foundation for life.

We, as parents, have enough things to worry about. Making sure that your child has the important nutrients that they need doesn’t have to be one of them.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: SMA® PRO Toddler Milk is suitable for young children from 1-3 years, as part of a healthy balanced diet and it is not a breast milk substitute. Breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible.
