We love having a picnic on days out. It saves an awful lot of money and means you aren’t wondering around at lunchtime trying to find somewhere that all the kids will eat. However, our picnics have always consisted of chucking a couple of soggy foil wrapped cheese sandwiches and some crisps into a carrier bag, which, let’s face it, is not very appetising.
When Savisto got in touch and asked us if we wanted to review something off their website, I was immediately drawn to their picnic sets, especially as we were in the process of moving to Wales – plenty of beaches and countryside for picnics. At first, I wanted one of their lovely wicker picnic baskets – they look so classy and could turn a bog standard picnic into something bit more special. As lovely as they are though, they aren’t really practical for us with still having a pushchair, so the 4 Person Picnic Backpack Hamper Cooler Bag with Tableware Set & Blanket seemed absolutely perfect.
The set contains:
- A large backpack with padded straps and several zipped compartments
- Fully detachable bottle holder/cooler
- Large picnic mat with waterproof base
- 1 chopping board, 1 cheese knife, 1 bottle opener, 4x plastic dinner plates, 4x plastic wine glasses, 4 x napkins, 4 x knives, forks and spoons, a salt and pepper shaker set and a small butter holder.
It came super fast and we couldn’t wait to get out and about using it. We didn’t have to wait too long for a lovely sunny day to test it out. We packed up our picnic, made a flask and headed down to Conwy Marina. We noticed when we packed our picnic that it didn’t have a huge amount of space for the food – it fitted our pretty basic picnic of some sandwiches wrapped in foil, crisps and a small tub of chicken, plus two mugs ok, but much more than that and we would have been cramming in slightly – something to bear in mind if you are taking lots of tubs or a bigger picnic. However, it all got in there and Graham said it was really comfortable to wear on his back, even full of food and holding a big flask.
It’s a gorgeous little set and the boys really enjoyed eating their picnic off plates rather than bits of foil. Little touches like proper napkins and the salt and pepper shakers made a normal picnic seem a little bit more special. Because it’s a 4 person set and there are 5 of us, we had to chuck in an extra plastic plate and cutlery for Benjamin. I would love to see a 6 person set at some point!
We have really enjoyed taking our picnic set on days out, and we have left the waterproof blanket in the car because it’s perfect for impromptu trips out. We’ve had a couple of compliments on it with a few older people saying how nice it is to see a young family having a ‘proper’ picnic!
The picnic backpack is available on the Savisto website and costs £37.99

These look fabulous
Perfect for our days out
Oh I love that backpack it’s like organisation dream land in there! Everything has it’s own little place and is secure so it’s not going to all roll around and flop to the bottom. I also really like how the glasses are in there. So you could pour into them rather than trying to balance the glass on grass and hope it does spill.
