We regularly hear about how scheduling in some ‘me time’ is important, but let’s face it, when you’re juggling work, a house and children, there’s often just no time to go out and be pampered. I occasionally get round to the beauty salon round the corner to have my eyebrows waxed once a month, and that’s about the extent of it. The logistics of anything else make it sometimes seem more hassle then it is worth.
Fortunately, there seems to be more companies taking this into consideration, and make it easier to access their services by coming to you, rather than you having to go to them. Urban Massage are one such company.
I’ve never had a proper massage, and it something I have always wanted. Getting out to a spa or similar to have one done has just never happened, so when I was offered a massage by a professional therapist in the comfort of my own home, I couldn’t say no.
Urban Massage offers on demand massages pretty much at the click of a button. At the moment, it is available in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They come to your home, workplace or hotel within 60 minutes, or on a date and time of your choice. The therapists, which you can choose depending on their availability are all qualified and have undergone rigorous training and checks, so you know they can be trusted.
When you book your massage, you can choose your therapist. I chose a lovely lady called Ambarin. There is a choice of treatments depending on your needs. As I have never had a massage before, I opted for the 60 minute Urban Classic. They bring all the equipment so you don’t need to worry about that – all you need to provide is 3 towels for the bed, and enough space for the bed to be put up.
I booked the night before, and Ambarin turned up on time (to the minute). She came in and she asked if she could connect to our Wifi – I assume to play the music. She set up the treatment bed, and then left the room whilst I stripped down to underwear, got on the table and covered the bottom half of me with a towel. She then turned some relaxing music on her phone, and got to work.
She encouraged me to communicate with her about the firmness of the massage, and after I bit I genuinely felt myself relaxing and chilling out. I’m pretty sure that at one point I may have began to drift off. The only space we had for the table was in the living room, so there was still the noise from Graham and the kids, so I can imagine in absolute peace and quiet it would be amazing. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the music being played through the therapist’s iPhone – I know it was supposed to be relaxing but I really can’t stand all that sort of music, and played through a phone it was a little distracting to begin with. She worked on my shoulders and back, legs, arms, hands and even my face!
I felt absolutely amazing afterwards, and when I went to pick Harrison up from school I felt like I was floating. The next day a few of the muscles in my back were a little sore – well, sore maybe isn’t quite the right word, but I could definitely feel that they had been worked on. The 60 minute treatment costs £65, which I think was pretty good value, especially as they come to you.
Which treatment do you think you would go for? I’d love to read your thoughts below!
