December 27th 2010 was a big day for me. It was the day that I went into town and bought my UGG boots. They weren’t cheap – £170 was an awful lot of money to me back then (it is now as well!). I’d only just started some temporary work after graduating from uni. I’d wanted those boots for a long, long time, and the fact that I was able to go and get them was like Christmas Day all over again.
Six years later and they are still knocking about. I put them on the other day for a quick dash to Asda for milk and it made me sad to see how old and worn they are beginning to look. I haven’t worn them much this season, but they will still always be one of my favourite pairs of footwear. I don’t think, even with lots of love shown to them, they are going to last that much longer.
The price, although a big outlay at the beginning probably works out cheaper per wear than any other pair of shoes or boots I have ever owned. For starters, I have never had footwear that has lasted six years (although my beloved Converse aren’t far behind in age now!). Other than this season, I’ve pretty much worn them every day September to April for the past six years. I know they aren’t too everyone’s tastes but I find they go with my ‘mum uniform’ of skinny jeans or leggings and tops and they are so, so comfy – like wearing slippers all the time.
Sadly now, they’ll probably only be worn when I need that bit of soft fluffy comfort on my feet. One day, I’ll see if I can get around to replacing them but for now, I need to make the most of my precious boots.
