Degustabox Review May 2016

For a long time I have been reading reviews by other bloggers of the Degustabox, and always thought they sounded great. I’m really pleased that we have now been given the opportunity to try them out for themselves.

If you haven’t heard of Degustabox, they’re a food and drink subscription service. For just £12.99 a month, you get a box of carefully selected products delivered directly to your door. It’s a great way to try out new brands and products that you might not normally go for, and let’s face it, getting a surprise is always fun!

Inside our May box was:

  • Jack Daniele Tennessee Honey BBQ Graze (RRP £1.99)
  • Garofolo Corkscrew Pasta (RRP £1.99)
  • 2 x Cranes Lime and Strawberry Alcopops (RRP £1.90 each)
  • Kallo Milk Chocolate Corn Cakes (RRP £1.69)
  • Kallo Yogurt Coated Corn Cakes (RRP £1.69)
  • The Wonderful Company Almonds (RRP £0.90)
  • The Wonderful Company Pistachios (RRP £0.90)
  • Get Fruity Bar (RRP £1.00)
  • 2 x Pechkeks Misfortune Cookies (RRP £1.00 each)
  • Brioche Pasquier All Butter Croissants (RRP £1.80)
  • Beloved Dates Date Nectar (RRP £3.50)
  • Pomegreat Pomegranate Juice (RRP £1.49)

As you can see, the value of the products are a lot more than the £12.99 subscription cost. We haven’t tried most of these brands or products before, and we have discovered some new favourites from it!

You will have to excuse the lack of photos of the entire box – the kids were so excited when they saw all the new food and drinks and went a bit rabid!!

Nuts are a great thing to have as a snack, and these have been great for chucking in my bag for a quick and healthy snack at work. I’d not heard of this brand before, but I’ll be looking out for them in the supermarket from now on

This was another new brand to us. We’ve had it for dinner a couple of times with our favourite homemade tomato sauce and meatballs. It was delicious! What we especially liked was how the sauce really clung to the pasta because of the shape!

These were my favourite things in the box – and one of my new favourite snacks. I’ve always been a fan of corn cakes, but never thought of chocolate covered ones. These were absolutely perfect with a cup of coffee, and much healthier and more filling than a normal biscuit!

I didn’t think I was going to like these – I really don’t like yoghurt, but I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I didn’t think they tasted at all yoghurty – if I hadn’t known, I would have thought it was white chocolate. These were a big hit with the kids as well, and I would much rather they have them than biscuits.

I have absolutely no idea what this strawberry and oat snack bar tasted like as the kids ate it, but as they have asked me if we can buy some more, I’m assuming it was rather nice!

I’ve never tried pomegranate juice before, and I’m always a bit wary about buying things like juice that we haven’t had before in case we don’t like it (which is why Degustabox is such a good idea!). Alex and I really enjoyed this, and drank it within the day. It’s lovely and fruity and perfect for a summer drink – and I can imagine it being a rather nice mixer for a cocktail!

We are huge croissant fans here, and we have bought these before, so I knew they would go down well. They’re wrapped in two’s, to keep them fresh and are perfect for a super quick breakfast or an after school snack.

We’ve bought this Jack Daniels sauce before, and are big fans of it. Graham sometimes cooks chicken in it and we have it with rice or chips for a quick dinner, or we sometimes just use it as a dipping sauce for chips or sausages or burgers. I’ve also mixed it into pasta as well, which was yummy!

On it’s own, this is definitely an aquired taste. I thought I could maybe pop it in porridge instead of having honey, but I wasn’t keen on it. However, I LOVE sticky toffee pudding, and I’ve realised that this could would probably work well as a substitute for dates in it. I’ve found a few recipes for mug cakes using this, and I’m going to have a go at making one next week – I’ll let you know how it turns out!

I love alchopop type things – they’re always great for a summer evening drink, and this one is one I will be definitely be buying again.

So that’s our first Degustabox – and I have to say I was incredibly impressed and very excited about the next one. If you want to try one out for yourself, visit Degustabox  and enter BLDEG15 for a whopping £6.00 discount!
