Degustabox | January 2017

Another month, another Degustabox! We really enjoy getting these every month – it gives us a chance to try out new products that we wouldn’t otherwise try. For those of you who don’t know, the Degustabox is a monthly food and drink subscription box costing £12.99.

What was in this month’s box?

Yushoi Snapea rice sticks – RRP £1.79

We’ve had these before, and really like them. They’re a much healthier alternative to crisps – high in fibre and a good source of protein, and very moreish!

The Chia Co Chia Shots – RRP £0.66 x 2

I love adding chia seeds to porridge in the morning or making coconut chia pudding. They’re quite expensive to buy usually so I thought these were good value, especially as they came in little packets.

Popchips  – RRP £1.99

We had the smoky bacon flavour and gosh, they were yummy! Again, because they are popped and not fried they are healthier than conventional crisps and have absolutely loads of flavour and crunch!

Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer – RRP £1.39

I love, love, LOVE ginger beer so was over the moon to see this. It’s the Scottish Raspberry flavour which was a nice, fruity change and super refreshing. It was a great drink for my first alcoholic drink of 2017, and one I will be definitely looking out for in the summer months!

Fruitella 30% Less Sugar Sweets – RRP £1.25

I never got a look in with these – Graham and the kids got their mucky paws on them first. I’m not a fan of sweets but the kids are, so if it has less sugar in, it’s a win for me!

Protein Boost – RRP £1.29

We were sent the strawberry flavour of this, which Graham drank. He said it was really creamy and nice. It contains 20g of protein in the bottle, giving a boost when you need it!

Natvia Sweetener – RRP £4.99

Sweetener is not something we use because I don’t really like the nasties that are in them, but this one is 100% natural.  I used this to replace sugar in our bakewell tart and you really couldn’t tell the difference. However, I think at £4.99, it was a little steep so probably wouldn’t buy this again.

Finn Crisp – RRP £1.89

I’m undecided on these. They are a little bit bland and cardboard-like on their own, but nice with cream cheese. I’m not sure I would buy them again, but it was good to try them.

Aspire Drinks – RRP £1.45

I’m sure we have had this brand of drinks in the Degustabox before. We liked them then, and still like them now. I tend to stay away from soft drinks as a whole but these are really fruity and refreshing. Even better – they’re calorie free!

Quinola Mothergrain – RRP £2.49

This is the first time since we started having Degustaboxes that I haven’t been able to even bring myself to try something. It’s quinoa with split peas, and although it sounds SUPER healthy and quick and easy to make, it’s really not my thing at all. I really don’t like wasting food, so it has been donated to the food bank

Also included was a £2.00 voucher for a The Collective yoghurt

As usual, we were pretty impressed in general with the contents of the box. The value of the products well exceeded the £12.99 cost of the box. If you want to try out one for yourself, you can get a whopping £7 off by entering BLDEG15 at the checkout.

*We were sent this box free of charge for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

  1. Chia is wonderful. I’ve found large bags of them for around 6 USD at my local grocery store–very reasonable. I like soaking them in rose water overnight, then adding water and some rose syrup (plus a tiny amount of orange extract). Really delicious and refreshing!

Nice sampler! It’s always fun to get treats in the mail.
